Do We Not Speak Spanish Around Here Anymore?
We've always spoken Spanish to our kids. Ben so much so that when we left him for 4 days when he was 12 months, we realized he truly didn't know any English. Brian's poor mother came to stay with him in Houston while we searched for an apartment in Virginia. We had to write out all the words she might need to know phonetically so they could communicate during the day while they were on their own. At night, Kristie and Anthony were living with us, so they could help her out. We felt so bad for her. Anyway, we've always spoken spanish around the house, particularly for the simple phrases and questions of everyday life with a toddler. Here is today's incident:
When Maddie asked for lunch today I questioned, "Quisieras queso?" (Do you want cheese?)
She replied, "No, I want cheese."
Whatever little lady.
