What Kind of TV Do Soderborgs Have?
Today Ben figured out that we have a different type of TV than most people. Bummer deal for us. He asked me why Sarah has Cailou and all the other great kid shows that we don't get.
We're totally cheap when it comes to TV. Our anniversary present to each other two years ago was to buy one of those old school monster antennas so we could get decent TV for the first time in over a year. We thought we were totally splurging to pay for the digital TV converter box that we need to use get TV in February when they change over to all digital signal. So we just have the monster antenna stuffed up in the attic with cables running down to all three levels of the house. We have an amplifier and it is still pretty sketchy at times for PBS and qubo. Lucky for the grown-ups in the family we get NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX just fine. By "just fine," I mean distinguishable features on the actors and the picture and sound don't break in and out. It isn't really that great. Honestly though, you really do forget after a little while what good picture quality means and you forget to be annoyed by it at all.
I can't imagine paying for cable, satellite or whatever else you can buy these days. I already watch too much TV with the 4 channels we get. So Ben knows we don't have cable now, but I'm sure he doesn't fully understand what that means yet. We'll keep our fingers crossed that he doesn't figure out what he is really missing for another 18 years.
